I'm not last...

... but second to last in swim class and in Central Park today where I passed 1 cyclist only, everybody else passed me.

Lots of work ahead of me because I am not enjoying being on the far left of the bell curve. I'd like to get near the "country club" = middle of the pack.

So here is my new training approach:
  • Focus on reaching the number of hours trained by sport per week and follow the beginner plan schedule - running will be replaced by strength training or other activity until my TFL muscle recovers
  • Improve my lap time in Central Park - immediate target = 20 minutes
  • Improve my endurance in the water - 10 weeks to swim 17 times 100 yards "easy"
  • Use visualization exercises to keep me motivated: watching the super buff actors in the TV show Lost (started Season 1 this week), reading Triathlete magazine which is awesome.
  • Relax with yoga and social activities
Recap of the past week:
  • 2 hours of swim
  • 2 hours 15 minutes ride
  • 60 minutes strength training + 180 minutes power vinyasa yoga
Positives: not completely breathless after 100 yards swim, switched over from the cage to clippers on the bike which will make me a bit faster, got my wheels pumped, night lights, water cages and tire changing kit. Cleaned my bike. Got up on my head for a while in yoga. Cooked a three course valentine's day dinner for my girlfriends. Pain free TFL.

Negatives: Second to last swimmer to finnish the sets, got passed by EVERY cyclist on a race bike in the park but one, still need to buy a pump for my bike because my tires were WAY under pressurized when I brought the bike to the shop and that's just in 4 weeks use, over-eating, recipes turned out ok but not great.

Note for my brother Hugo: I used the clippers with cycling shoes in the park and DID NOT FALL.
