Due to Technical Difficulties...
Happy Belated New Year Readers, and happy belated birthday to me.
Invigorated by my vacation and exciting athletic prospects (mountaineering, triathlon, both firsts), I hit the gym every day and joined a Triathlon Club on top of my gym membership.
My #1 priority is to learn how to comfortably swim freestyle for 1 hour. With the triathlon club, I get a weekly swim class, conveniently located at my gym. I also bought a new swimsuit, initially made for children but I refuse to wear the hideous adult black suits. If I'm going to be splashing in the water 7 days a week, I want to do it in style.
My #2 priority is to learn how to bike on a REAL bike. I learned that my hybrid will not take me far at my triathlon so I painfully have to upgrade to a road bike which I seem unable to ride at the moment, judging by my test ride at the bike shop (very sinuous ride...). So no practicing until
I find my two wheel mate (the tradition is to name your bike apparently).
My #3 priority is to not injure myself during training! I am not off to a good start on this one. Late last year I started feeling pain on my right hip during long runs, so I'm going to physical therapy for tendinitis. And at swim class I broke my toe after jumping excitedly in the shallow pool. I am taking 6 doses of Bone Up (calcium supplements, NOT viagra) a day to speed up recovery. And there's pressure coming from my boss who is disgusted by the sight of my sneakers at the office.
To make a long story short, due to a series of temporary handicaps, I'm not training at my max and will probably have to cancel or reschedule mountaineering. But I will not be defeated, mark my words. I will take this time to acclimate to the pool and build strength.
Voila.
